Many budget memory foam and hybrid mattresses use a fiberglass layer to meet federal flammability standards. As long as the inner cover stays sealed, it is not a problem. Once it is opened — unzipped, washed, or torn — fine glass fibers become airborne, settle on every surface they touch, and keep getting re-stirred every time someone walks through the room.

If you have health concerns related to an exposure, talk with a licensed healthcare provider.
How do I know if my mattress has fiberglass?
Check the law tag stitched to your mattress for the words "fiberglass" or "glass fiber" listed as a percentage of fill material. If your mattress has an inner cover marked "Do Not Remove," treat it as a fiberglass-containing mattress and do not unzip it.
Will homeowners insurance cover remediation costs?
Coverage varies significantly and is often denied due to pollution or gradual-damage exclusions in many policies. We recommend checking your specific policy language, but most fiberglass mattress remediation is handled as a direct-pay service.
Can I just clean it myself?
For a very minor, contained event — a few visible fibers near the bed with no spread to other rooms — careful DIY cleanup with true HEPA equipment and proper PPE may be enough. Once contamination has spread to multiple rooms, into carpet throughout the home, or into your HVAC system, professional remediation is strongly recommended.
Do I need to hire a separate company for HVAC duct cleaning?
No. We clean HVAC ductwork in-house as part of the remediation process — it is the same service we provide on mold remediation jobs. The only exception is the rare case where the HVAC unit or motor itself is damaged or needs replacement; that specific work falls outside what we do, and we will connect you with a qualified HVAC contractor for that piece only.
