If a mattress cover was removed, torn, or washed and you are now finding glass-like fibers on your floors, bedding, or furniture — you are not imagining it, and you are not alone. We can help you get your home back.
This is not a problem a regular vacuum or a weekend of cleaning can fix. Edmondson Restoration brings the same HEPA filtration, containment, air scrubbing, and HVAC duct cleaning equipment we use for mold remediation to bear on fiberglass contamination — paired with independent, third-party air quality testing through our industrial hygienist partner — giving Midlands SC, Aiken, and Augusta homeowners a single-company, verifiable path back to a clean home.
Many budget memory foam and hybrid mattresses use a fiberglass layer to meet federal flammability standards. As long as the inner cover stays sealed, it is not a problem. Once it is opened — unzipped, washed, or torn — fine glass fibers become airborne, settle on every surface they touch, and keep getting re-stirred every time someone walks through the room.
If this sounds familiar:
Turn off your HVAC system in the affected area now, and avoid sweeping, shaking fabrics, or vacuuming with a standard vacuum — all of these spread fibers further instead of removing them.
Fiberglass particles embed in carpet fibers, fabric weave, and HVAC ductwork — and they are hard to spot even when you are looking right at them. A non-sealed vacuum redistributes fibers instead of capturing them. Washing contaminated bedding in a home machine can contaminate the machine itself. Sweeping lifts settled fibers right back into the air.
Professional remediation requires sealed True HEPA equipment, proper containment, and a methodical room-by-room approach — the same fundamentals we apply on every mold remediation project, adapted to a different contaminant.
Call us and we will talk you through it — no obligation.
We inspect the affected area, determine whether contamination is contained to a single room or has spread via HVAC, and scope the project before any work begins.
Affected rooms are sealed with poly sheeting and placed under negative air pressure to prevent further spread during cleanup.
The contaminated mattress and any unsalvageable textiles are safely bagged and removed from the home.
Every surface — walls, ceilings, floors, furniture — is cleaned with sealed True HEPA equipment and wet-wipe methods, with industrial air scrubbers running throughout.
We clean HVAC ductwork in-house using the same equipment and process as our mold remediation jobs, so this does not require a second company or a second appointment.
We work with an independent industrial hygienist who can perform air and surface sampling before and after remediation — an objective, third-party confirmation rather than a company grading its own work.
We review the completed work and test results with you, so you know exactly where things stand before you move back in.
A note on expectations
Fiberglass that has embedded deeply in porous materials or settled in hard-to-reach areas can be extremely difficult to remove completely — no remediation company can honestly promise 100% elimination of every fiber. Our goal is to bring your home back to a livable, significantly reduced-exposure condition using the most thorough methods available, and to be straightforward with you about what is realistic at every step.
In-house duct cleaning
No second company, no second appointment. We clean HVAC ductwork ourselves, using the same equipment and process as our mold remediation jobs.
Independent verification
Air and surface sampling through a separate industrial hygienist — an objective result, not just our word for it.
Restoration-grade equipment
Sealed True HEPA vacuums, industrial air scrubbers, and full containment — the same standard we hold ourselves to on every mold and water job.
